In this scenario you remain a member of the air system Delivery Team, assisting the TAA to deliver the IFF Mode 5 and ADS-B major design change for the KC-18 Mk 8 aircraft.
In this second exercise you will be focusing on the IFF and ADS-B, tailoring the Type Certification Basis (TCB) by selecting the Airworthiness Requirements most suitable for each aspect of the change, recording decisions in the Certification Log.
Originally the Common-Baseline Tanker / Transport Delivery Team (CBTT DT) presented the requirements organised by their ATA chapter at the three-digit level. However, a structure for the presentation of the requirements is not mandated for Certification Logs, and can be presented in a variety of formats as decided by the respective DT. Nevertheless, the Certification Log does provide a preferred format, with one tab for the original aircraft and then additional tabs for subsequent design changes.
The Aero A-2X8 series initially received EASA Type Certification against the requirements of EASA CS-25 (Large Aeroplanes) in 2005, therefore the C-18 CBTT Airworthiness Requirements are largely derived from the appropriate CS-25 paragraphs.
The Certification Log contains columns referencing Applicable and Affected requirements. Tailoring the TCB permits the TAA to select the ‘Applicable’ requirements based on the configuration and intended usage of the type.
Tailoring the TCB for a Design Change for an in-service platform permits the TAA to select the ‘Affected’ requirements based on the baseline TCB. Changes to configuration and intended usage of the Type may also introduce new ‘Applicable’ requirements.
As this exercise relates to a design change only, all requirements from the original TCB are applicable. Your task is to review the example requirements and determine if they are affected, you should also provide a justification for your decisions.
In order to assist you through the tailoring process, you will be using AET Tool 8N, the Certification Log. This is in a spreadsheet format (.xlsx).
Each syndicate will work on the requirements within the ‘Certification Log’ tab.
In order to help you there are some example requirements, within the ‘Example Certification Log’ tab, that have their applicability and justification completed. Use these to guide your judgement.
