Introduction
Welcome to the Home Page for the System Safety Practitioner (SSP) workshop, a 4 day workshop delivered virtually by Atkins’ experienced safety trainers to reinforce learning from the SSP Online Training (SSPOL). The SSP workshops cover a number of the techniques covered in the ASEMS Toolkit.
The purpose of this page is to provide participants the opportunity to familiarise themselves with:
- The format of the SSP Workshops
- The SSP Home Page
- The SSP Course Timetable
- Useful information supporting your learning journey.
SSP Format
During SSP groups of up to 6 participants will work together virtually to complete the workshop activity, with support from the experienced Atkins safety tutors as required. The workshops will, predominately, be based on the scenario for the development of the Oil Storage, Separation and Transfer System (Oil SSTS).
The workshop will be delivered virtually using either ZOOM Pro or Webex, with participants and tutors located throughout the country. If you have not already done so, please visit our virtual test page to ensure you are ready to participate in the workshops.
On the first day you will be granted access into the virtual environment and assigned a team, which you will remain in for the duration of the course. Each team will operate in a breakout room to complete each of the workshop, where you will be able to work collaboratively within your Teams online area.
SSP Home Page
The SSP Home Page provides the gateway to the SSP course material, with links at the top of the page to:
- The SSP scenario
- Some of the SSP workshops are based on the development of the Oil Storage, Separation and Transfer System (Oil SSTS). Whilst you do not need to be an expert in the Oil Industry and the Oil SSTS is 100% made-up, participants may wish to familiarise themselves with the scenario before the workshop.
- Each Team’s Home area
- Each team has a dedicated working area which provides relevant/additional information for the workshops and a range of interactive tools to enable participants to contribute simultaneously to achieve the workshop aims. In most cases participants can also download a copy of their work for their own information.
- Information Page
- Whilst there is no requirement to download or print information out for the SSP Workshop, this page contains PDF copies of all presentations and handout material, and a few useful links. Participants way wish to familiarise themselves with some of the useful information prior to the workshop.
SSP Timetable
Each day will consist of 5 hours of workshops between the following hours:
- 0930 to 1100

During the week you will be working through a number of workshops, which will start with a short recap / introductory presentation. The timetable for the week is outlined below, each day will start with an introduction and will conclude with an end of day review.
